The North Geelong Secondary College Human Powered Vehicle team have successfully completed the 2024 Energy Breakthrough. Having experienced 37 degree heat, followed by strong winds, dust storms and then rain.
Having competed scrutineering and design and construction (being questioned about the design and construction of their trike) and participated in display and presentation ( a 20 minute presentation they have memorised to a panel of judges) the team competed a night trial to determine grid position and commencing at 12 noon Saturday they began racing for 24 hours.
The students have been amazing, it’s was hot all weekend and they have all represented North Geelong Secondary College with pride.
The students placed 49th (91) and 16th in their category (of 27) this all equates to riding 655.7km in 24 hours.
With their ‘L’ plates on they achieved this by completing 415 laps of a 1.58km race track. Their fastest lap was 2:25. With most laps between 2.5 - 3 minutes.
This is an amazing effort for a completely new team racing against human powered and electric trikes.
With only one roll over they were very resilient in trying conditions.
Congratulations to
Emmett Baum
Charlie Adkins
Lincoln Peel
Jake McDonnell
Brodie McDonell
Luke Haigh
William Devlin
